Things: It's the same old question. Is your biology your destiny?
This series, It’s the same old question. Is biology your destiny? explores the question, “Is your biology your destiny?” Different objects (a fake plastic lemon, a blue iridescent ball, and a golden toy bird) are placed between my legs as I wear hot pink tights. I associate these objects with popular notions of female identity and identification. My work quite often explores ideas related to female identity/my identity, popular culture and kitsch. Recently, I’ve revisited the text, The Second Sex written by Simone de Beauvoir. Sixty-five years later, the issues discussed are still relevant to our present day society. I’ve decided to create this series as a response to this book and as an acknowledgement to my turning 50 years old this year. I find that I keep asking this same question during my life, “Is (and has) my biology determined my own destiny?”
